the waiting game continues

so in continuation of this post, i ended up not getting into any grad school programs via waitlists. needless to say i was pretty crushed, but was comforted in knowing that my life and future is in the hands of the Creator of the Universe and that everything happens for a reason.

anyway despite the results of previous attempts, i decided to apply again to grad school again this year for the last time. i submitted my applications at the end beginning of last month so for now, the waiting game continues...

stay tuned.

brooke fraser | f a i t h f u l

There's distance in the air and I cannot make it leave
i wave my arms' round about me and blow with all my might
I cannot sense you close, though I know you're always here
But the comfort of you near is what i long for

When I can't feel you, I have learned to reach out just the same
When I can't hear you, I know you still hear every word I pray
And I want you more than I want to live another day
And as I wait for you maybe I'm made more faithful

All the folly of the past, though I know it is undone
I still feel the guilty one, still trying to make it right
So I whisper soft your name, let it roll around my tongue,
knowing You're the only one who knows me
You know me

Show me how I should live this
Show me where I should walk
I count this world as loss to me
You are all I want
You are all I want

oren lavie | h e r . m o r n i n g . e l e g a n c e

i think this video is one of the coolest and most creative videos i've ever seen (it's up there with mutemath's paper darren video in my opinion). i love everything about it!

i actually really like the music too. it's just the right amount of mellowness and strings for me, and the perfect song to listen to on a rainy day or a carefree sunny one. :) check out his myspace - i think his other songs are fantastic as well.

thanks justin, for sending me the video and introducing me to mr. lavie! :)

book nook: the old man and the sea

the old man and the sea
ernest hemingway

so far 2009 has been a year of reading for me. it's still january and i've already finished three books! (you know you're a geek when this excites you. :P) but honestly, there's nothing better than curling up with a good book on a cold wintery night. :)

anyway, i picked this book up at the library because i figured it couldn't suck since it's a classic. it's basically the story of an old fisherman, some bad luck, a skiff, and a big fish. (hemingway puts these things together a lot better than i just did, haha.)

it's a short book (at around 100 pages its what they call a novella - thank you wikipedia) so it didn't take too long to finish at all. overall i must say that it's a pretty good read although, to be completely honest, there were some parts that i thought were a little slow. nevertheless, if you haven't read this book yet, i think it's one worth reading.

hit the road, rat.

happy chinese new year! hope you had a good one. :)

click here for some awesome chinese new year shots courtesy of The Big Picture (this site is full of so many amazing photos)

i especially like...
1, because the shot is set up so well
4, because it's just so china (haha, oh the stools)
25, because i love dumplings!
28, because i think the fake plastic burberry cups are funny
30, because the little boy is cute and i really like the polka dot shadows
35, because it looks like a GIGANTIC moon

ugglies

sometimes you have no choice but to eat your words. for example, crocs and uggs: i used to hate them both with a passion and told myself i'd never buy such horrible ugly shoes...and now i own a pair of each. :P

anyway, i wore my uggs out for the first time today (i figured it was a good day to try them out since the weatherman said it would feel like -20c) and i was really impressed with how warm they were! and they were so comfortable too! it kind of felt like my foot was in a cloud of stuffed animals, haha.

yes, uggs may put the ugg in ugly, but i'll take warm, toasty toes over cold, numb ones anyday. :)

book nook: the undomestic goddess

the undomestic goddess
sophie kinsella

lately i've been itching to read again. i tried a couple of books since the last time i posted a book review (it's been far too long), but i couldn't get through any of them. ughh. that's another post for another time. anyway, i went to the library all ready to borrow books recommended by my cousin, maxine, but it turned out that they didn't have any of them. boo.

instead, i picked up this book (along with three other ones) and i'm glad i did. it's set in england and basically follows the journey of a high-profile lawyer in london who, after making a huge mistake, leaves her job, stumbles upon another job, and starts new life. well, there's a lot more to the story, but i don't want to give anything away.

this was my first sophie kinsella book (she wrote the shopaholic series along with some other stuff, but i never read any of them...yet) and i actually really enjoyed it! it was an easy read (only took me a few hours to finish), light, funny, and it even had one reference to harry potter (bahaha, i laughed so hard at that part). sweet. :)

so for anyone on the look out for some good chick-lit, i highly recommend this book.

what matters to you // me?

great video. i really like the quote at the end:

"I wish to do something Great and Wonderful, but I must start by doing the little things like they were Great and Wonderful" - A. Einstein

smart man.

two.zero.zero.nine

happy new year everyone! :)

i still can't believe that 1999 is already a decade away. i think that's one of the reasons i feel i'm becoming old and frail. that and the fact that i was so tired and could barely keep my eyes open at 1:30am yesterday. o_O
