into the woods
i took a detour on the way home from school today and ended up on a hiking trail somewhere between the university and my house. it was quiet, serene, and really beautiful, and i had never gone down that path before so i was curious to see where it went. i took some pictures with my phone and while they really don't do the trail any justice, here's a little glimpse of what i saw today:
even though i doubt i'd go again any time soon, i'm really glad that i tried it out and that i went (even though in retrospect it probably wasn't the smartest or safest thing to do.) there's just something super peaceful about being surrounded by huge trees that remind you of how small you are, and the sound of snow crunching beneath your feet reminding you of how small you once were. :)

snowboarding fail
what do you get when you have an unathletic girl, a snowboard, and a big hill mountain which is clearly too difficult for a first-time snowboarder? my first snowboarding experience. granted in the beginning it was actually quite fun, but after some bad decisions the day ended with me and two friends having to walk down the mountain. we literally walked down at least 3/4 of mont tremblant with no one around (the slopes had already closed because it took us that long to get down the first 1/4) as it slowly got darker and darker. there was other stuff that just compounded the crappiness of the situation, but on the whole it was really scary and totally traumatizing.
yah, i'm so done with snowboarding.
p.s. mont tremblant is beautiful! but if i ever go again i will give skiing another try. or just walk around the village.
...
edit: apparently my experience happened to another friend of mine, only she was alone on the mountain (read: she had it worse). she's a trooper though as she has gone snowboarding two more times since then. as for me? yah i think i'm still out, haha.

i love you, montreal.
despite the biting cold, ridiculous amounts of snow, and crazy streets and drivers, montreal has got to be one of my favourite canadian cities. we spent new years there this year and seriously, every time i go i just end up liking the city more and more. too bad my french is atrocious. makes me wish i paid more attention during high school french.
well, almost.

goodbye 2009, hello 2010.
it's going to be hard topping 2009. from getting engaged to starting a new career path, a lot of pivotal things happened this year. plus, i read 20+ books. awesomeness.
so yes, due to all the pivotal things that happened this past year, 2010 has a lot to live up to. with that being said though, i already know next year will be a great one because while this year was pivotal, next year will be monumental: we're getting married. :)
a little premature but...happy new year everyone!

olympic torch relay: with glowing hearts
(note: sorry for the bad picture quality - my camera ran out of batteries, so i had to use the camera on my phone instead.)
^ panoramic shot of the stage area. got a little wonky (2 flames?) but that's the general idea.
yesterday justin and i went to the olympic torch relay celebration in our neighbourhood. it was a lot of fun and even though i missed the entrance of the torch by 5 minutes (gahhhh), it was still worth the trek out into the cold. school was let out for the day (or at least the morning) to celebrate the torch, so there was an abundance of elementary school kids running everywhere and making a lot of noise. it was pretty funny. :) people were just excited all around - for the flame, for the torch relay, for the olympics in general - so it was a pretty lively and exciting in general. highlights included seeing the torch leave (at least i saw it in action!), hearing a speech given by the mayor which including him attempting to greet everyone in different languages, and listening to a celtic band/family (the leahys) do their thing which also included some highland dancing - sah-weet!) it was funny because the bassist, keyboardist, and guitarist kept trying to shove their hands in their pockets or rub/blow them whenever possible. poor guys, haha.
all in all, it was one fun morning. :)
^ another shot of the stage. i think the guy with the mic was our mayor.
^ the flags they were handing out. they were everywhere, including all over the ground. haha.
^ watching the olympic torch leave the ceremony
^ frozen cold, but so worth it. :)

term one of six: done
i'm finished my first term of OT school! :D the exam itself was alright - 2 hours of non-stop writing, but my hand managed not to cramp up so that was good. fortunately i write pretty fast so i was able to get all my thoughts down on the paper, but i think that if you're a slow writer you would have be so screwed. or maybe i just had a lot to write.
either way i'm free until school starts up again next year and the break couldn't have come any sooner. sah-weeeet!

my exam tomorrow is the only thing standing in the way of me and my christmas vacation and as i sit here typing out this blog i can safely say i am screwed, haha.
i just want this term to be finished - generally i'm enjoying it, but right now i'm so over school. in fact, i think i'll go to bed now...g'nite!
